Fly the kite within you...

Wish I had wings,
I could fly,
could see things
with a bird's eye.

Wish I could fly
in the sky
over the hills,
how it feels,
over the mountain, to fly...
to see the sea from up, above and high.

Wish I had wings like a kite
could change my own flight,

I feel a kite living inside,
which I do not want to hide.
Towards the sky
I just want let it fly

I am just trying to let you know how my wish to fly had reflection on my art...and in logo for an upcoming kite festival.

stunning, even more beautiful than I expected and I admit to high expectations from your kite fest. I love the logo.

there is so much here I think I shall try to examine and comment one at a time, over time, so I can re-look again and again.

angel - I love this in the blues, serenity, and the effect of lightness making the wings themselves have motion and seem to fly and how all of her meshes into the sky itself, making the angel a part of something that is vaster than herself.

trying to fly is both hopeful and sad.

it reminds me, like tony g's poetry, of a dozen years of my life when I believed that I could defy gravity if I believed hard enough.  always trying to fly and always crashing, unrealistic expectations, leaving everyone who loved me to try to do something or be something that would never, could never exist and finding new others to put the pieces back together.

'normal'.  what a strange goal.  I wanted what I wanted and even I didn't know what that was, just that I wanted it.  the cape is the epitome of delusion.  I never had a cape to fly or to be normal and clothe myself in.  I kept just being me and at one point, I had to stop and just learn how to like me the way I was.

perhaps I did fly sometimes, like Icarus, maybe I still do... sometimes and always too close to the sun.  and when my home-made wax and feather wings melt and I fall into the sea, perhaps someone will name it after me - the sea of idunnian delusions.

that one works best in the earth tones and sepias.  we are dust and unto dust we must return.

...that's the reality...we must return, but who stopped dreaming to fly?

you have a great eye...just got the right essence of my pain(tings)

Thank you for your beautiful write-up.

Beautiful!

Ray Bradbury wrote a short story of a father that had wings and could not fly during the day because he attracted stares and rude comments, embarrassing his family. So, his two children put string on him for a Kite Contest, sent him up as a kite, and he flew happily for hours! You reminded me of this good stroy.

Best wishes!

well, if it helps, none of the rest of them depress me, so when I comment on them it should be more pleasant.  thx for understanding.  ((rabi))

in fact, like my beloved saints, the PIRA, the trying to fly is the beautiful but tragic Revolution of the soul. so there is that too.

let's talk about "butterfly girl 2" I like this one in earth tones too. Lately I've been quite caught up thinking about (but not writing to yet) butterflies and crystalis' - some kind of image in my head of a butterfly that keeps climbing back in the cocoon and that you have to have faith that what is in there is that same stunning buttefly, even if it has temporarily hidden itself again.

I love the arching back, the facing the .. is the present? the future? both? I don't know but I get a gist of joyous bravery and saints and more - freedom from the petty minds of the earth below, freedom from daily strife, freedom of creativity which doesn't have to be worked at, which merely is.

I love that one.

Iðunn 4 years ago

In an effort to catch up, "wings" I like a great deal but I don't connect with as well. I like the oranges on a visual level, but there is something vaguely aggressive about it, that make me a bit uncertain - perhaps it's the maroon colour in the top right.

At the same time, I would really like to see you do an image in those maroons and crimsons, maybe some other theme. Maybe passion, grief or something earthier than freedom (butteflies). I'm fond of those colours generally, just maybe not in that one.

I love the movement, power and grace in "Wish I Could Fly."

Iðunn 4 years ago

there is something basic and satisfying in "eve in eden".  I'm stunned by your analogies there.  it's grounded basic reality caught in a surreal way that makes the image oddly more direct.  how strange~

it is my kind of eve. just who she is, nothing put on, nothing taken off, and herself down to the core.  I love that one too. Woman. Just... woman, as she is with potential for lover and mother.

in all fairness, rabi. I have no background in art and am not an expert. I am just some girl who loves your work as a layperson. I do love your work, though.

I really care about your thoughts...because...I did my paintings...and I know you are right...

Do I really need an expert?

Iðunn 4 years ago

aw, thank you ((rabi)).

also, as a woman and a maternal person... get enough sleep, it's important. :)

I know how artists are, but the world will wait for you. don't make me go and worry about you. :p
